Hello Everyone,
I am a brand new registered member and I have come to this forum to ask you a question regarding this motor.  My father owned this for many years before I inherited it, and before I put it away in dry storage about 8 years ago, this motor ran like a purring kitten, and very reliable.  It developed a symptom that is kind of hard to describe.  When the motor is running (this was 8 years ago...), the motor seemed to run perfectly, but seemed to be having difficulty transferring the power to the lower drive unit ... I could rev the motor, but wasn't getting any real response from the lower end.  I barely limped back to the dock.  Now I would like to get this motor back into its former glory, running like a kitten, and would like to do the work myself.  Where can I get parts (coils, condensor, points, plug, lube, etc.) locally (I live in Bothell).  Also, is there a manual that I can look at to make sure I do everything correctly?
Thanks for any help!

Hi,

One of your problems sounds like you've spun the hub on your prop. Fairly common with OMC motors. You'll need to look for another prop. Some Evinrude dealers may be able to re-hub your prop. As for the tune-up parts, you can get all of that through NAPA or Car Quest. Ask if they have a Sierra parts catalog. Your serial number and model number will determine the year of your motor, and you'll need to know that.

Have fun restoring your motor, and hope to see you at some of our meets some time.

Pat,

Thank you for the tips!  Much appreciated.  I will check out my local NAPA store for the parts... surprised that a NAPA store would carry old outboard motor parts like that  Smiley  Great!  I will take off the prop and have a look at the hub.  I hope that's all it is!  When is the next meeting?

Thanks again,
